Kara's First Field Trip: Cherry Hill Orchards

Kara went on her very first school field trip. Her Kindergarten class went to Cherry Hill Orchards. The kids had a great time. We all went on a hay ride, we got to pick and learn about apples, pick our very own pumpkins off the vine, watched a video on Johnny Appleseed, play in a hay maze and of course enjoy some apple cider.

Here is Kara twisting her apple off the branch. We needed to twist the apples off so not to damage the branches of the apple trees. Kara's friend Ashlyn, Mrs. Sherrick and Kara show off their apples.

We got back on the hay wagon and enjoyed eating our apples.

One of the ladies from the orchard shared with us how apples are picked and the apple basket they use to put the apples in as they are picking them. Then we went inside to see the machine that shines the apples up.

Here is a picture of Kara standing in the large refrigerator where the apples are stored. It was so cold in there...Brrr
Next, we were off to the pumpkin patch to pick our very own pumpkins. This was a lot of fun. We had to be very careful when picking our pumpkins up because they had very prickly stems. The Hay Maze

This is a pic of the shed where the kids got to sit on apple boxes and watch a movie about Johnny Appleseed. http://www.applejuice.org/johnnyappleseed.html
After we left the orchard we drove to a park for a picnic lunch. The kids enjoyed the bus ride to and from the orchard. One of Kara's little friends actually fell asleep on the way home...Too cute!
